Meta Description: Selling on Vinted and want out? You must withdraw your balance before deleting your account or you lose it. Here’s the full process including GDPR data removal for UK users. Updated February 2026.
Vinted makes it weirdly personal when you try to leave. There’s no clean “Delete Account” button waiting for you. Instead you get guilt-tripped through a process that asks why you’re going, whether you’re sure, whether you’d like to take a break instead.
I sold about forty items on Vinted over two years. Mostly clothes I’d been hoarding since my twenties that no longer fit and never would again. Made decent money too. But the constant notifications, the lowball offers, the “Is this still available?” messages on items clearly marked as available — it wore me down.
When I finally decided to delete, I nearly lost £47.80 sitting in my Vinted Wallet because I didn’t realise deletion wipes your balance permanently. Nobody tells you this clearly until it’s almost too late.
Here’s the complete process so you don’t make the same mistake.
What you need to know:
⏱️ Time needed: 10-15 minutes (including balance withdrawal)
💷 Balance warning: Withdraw ALL money before deleting
📱 Where to do it: Vinted app (required for full deletion)
📦 Pending orders: Must be completed first
🔒 Data removal: GDPR request available for UK users

Before You Do Anything: Withdraw Your Vinted Balance
This is the single most important step. Read this before touching any deletion settings.
Why this matters:
When you delete your Vinted account, any money in your Vinted Wallet disappears. Gone. Vinted’s terms are clear on this — once the account is deleted, they consider any remaining balance forfeited.
I’ve seen people on UK forums losing £100+ because they deleted first and tried to claim the money after. Vinted’s support team told them there was nothing they could do.
How to check your balance:
In the Vinted app:
- Open Vinted
- Tap “My Balance” or “Wallet” (usually in your profile section)
- Note the amount
What counts as “balance”:
- Money from items you’ve sold
- Refunds that went to your Vinted Wallet instead of your bank
- Any promotional credits (these can’t usually be withdrawn but won’t survive deletion either)
How to withdraw your balance:
Step 1: Open the Vinted app.
Step 2: Go to your profile → tap “My Balance” or “Wallet.”
Step 3: Tap “Withdraw” or “Transfer to bank account.”
Step 4: You’ll need to enter your UK bank details:
- Sort code
- Account number
- Account holder name
Step 5: Enter the amount you want to withdraw (do the full amount).
Step 6: Confirm the transfer.
How long it takes:
- Usually 1-3 working days for UK bank transfers
- Sometimes up to 5 working days depending on your bank
- Weekends and bank holidays delay it
Wait until the money actually arrives in your bank account before proceeding with deletion. Don’t just submit the withdrawal and immediately delete. I waited three days to see the £47.80 clear in my Monzo before I touched the delete option.
Check for Pending Orders and Active Listings
You can’t cleanly delete your account if you have unfinished business on the platform.
Pending sales (items you’ve sold but not shipped):
Ship them first. If you delete with an unshipped order, the buyer gets frustrated, potentially opens a dispute, and Vinted’s system gets confused. Finish the transaction, wait for the buyer to confirm receipt, and let the money clear to your balance.
Pending purchases (items you’ve bought but not received):
Wait for delivery. If there’s a problem with the item, you want your account active to open a dispute or request a refund. Deleting mid-transaction makes claims nearly impossible.
Active listings:
These get removed automatically when you delete your account. You don’t need to manually take down each listing. But if you have items with watchers or ongoing conversations, consider whether you want to complete those sales first.
Active disputes or refund claims:
Wait until these are fully resolved. Deleting during an open dispute is the fastest way to lose money you’re owed.
My rule of thumb: Clear everything out. No pending orders. No active disputes. Balance withdrawn and confirmed in your bank. Then delete.
Method 1: Delete Vinted Account via the App
The app is the primary method. The website has limited account management compared to the app.
Step by step:
Step 1: Open the Vinted app and make sure you’re logged in.
Step 2: Tap your profile icon (bottom right, looks like a person).
Step 3: Tap the settings gear icon (usually top right of your profile page).
Step 4: Scroll down through the settings. Look for “Account” or “Account Settings.”
Step 5: Scroll further down to find “Delete Account” or “Close Account.” It’s at the very bottom, naturally. Past notifications settings, past shipping preferences, past everything useful.
Step 6: Tap “Delete Account.”
Step 7: Vinted presents you with options:
- “Take a break” (pauses your account temporarily)
- “I’ll come back later” (basically just logs you out)
- “Delete my account permanently” (what you actually want)
Tap “Delete my account permanently.”
Step 8: Vinted asks for your reason. Options usually include:
- “I’m not using Vinted anymore”
- “I have privacy concerns”
- “I found another platform”
- “Other”
Pick whichever. It doesn’t affect the deletion process.
Step 9: Enter your password to confirm.
Step 10: Tap “Confirm” or “Delete Account.”
Step 11: You should see a confirmation message: “Your account will be deleted.”
What happens next:
Your account enters a deactivation period (usually 7 days). During this time:
- Your profile and listings become invisible to other users
- Your account technically still exists in Vinted’s system
- You can potentially reactivate by logging back in (though this isn’t guaranteed)
After the deactivation period, deletion is permanent. Your listings, reviews, messages, and profile data are removed from the platform.
Method 2: Request Deletion via Email (GDPR Route)
This method is useful if:
- The app won’t show the delete option (happens occasionally)
- You’ve already uninstalled the app
- You want written confirmation for your records
- You want to ensure GDPR-compliant data erasure
Send a GDPR Article 17 request:
Email to: dpo@vinted.com (Data Protection Officer)

textSubject: Account Deletion and Data Erasure Request
- UK GDPR Article 17
Dear Vinted Data Protection Officer,
I am writing to request permanent deletion of my
Vinted account and erasure of all personal data you
hold about me, in accordance with UK GDPR Article 17
(Right to Erasure).
Account details:
- Registered email: [your email]
- Username: [your Vinted username]
- Full name: [your name]
Please confirm:
1. The date my account will be fully deleted
2. The date all personal data will be erased from
your systems
3. Any data that will be retained and the legal
basis for retention
I understand you have 30 days to comply with this
request under UK GDPR.
Thank you,
[Your name]
[Date]
Why GDPR matters here:
Standard account deletion through the app removes your visible profile. But Vinted may retain your personal data internally for months or years under their privacy policy.
A formal GDPR erasure request creates a legal obligation. Vinted must delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, with limited exceptions for legal compliance (transaction records for tax purposes).
What they can legally keep:
Even with GDPR erasure, Vinted can retain:
- Financial transaction records (required by UK/EU tax law, usually 6-7 years)
- Records of disputes or fraud investigations
- Data required for ongoing legal proceedings
Everything else — your photos, messages, browsing history, preferences, device data — must go.
Method 3: Contact Vinted Support Directly
If both the app method and email don’t work for you, contact support through the app.
In the app:
- Profile → Settings → Help Centre
- Search for “delete account”
- Tap “Contact Us” or “Submit a Request”
- Explain you want to permanently delete your account
- They’ll process it or guide you through
Response time:
Vinted UK support usually responds within 24-48 hours. Be specific about wanting permanent deletion, not just “taking a break” or pausing.
Uninstall the App After Deletion
Once you’ve confirmed deletion, remove the app from your device.
iPhone:
- Press and hold the Vinted app icon
- Tap “Remove App” → “Delete App”
Android:
- Press and hold the Vinted icon
- Drag to “Uninstall” or tap the X
- Confirm
Also clean up:
- Remove Vinted from your browser bookmarks
- Clear any saved Vinted passwords from your browser
- Unsubscribe from Vinted marketing emails (they might continue for a while even after deletion — unsubscribe link at the bottom of emails)
- Remove Vinted from any “Sign in with Google” or “Sign in with Facebook” connections. Check our guide on removing Google app permissions for this.
What Happens to Your Reviews?
This bothers some people. You spent months building positive reviews and a good seller rating.
After deletion:
- Your reviews of other users remain visible but show as from a “Deleted User”
- Reviews others left on your profile disappear along with your profile
- Your seller rating is gone permanently
Does this matter?
Only if you plan to come back. If you create a new account later, you start from zero. No reviews, no rating, no history. You’re a brand new seller that buyers have no reason to trust yet.
If you might return to Vinted within the next year, consider just deactivating or pausing instead of full deletion. Rebuilding trust from scratch on selling platforms is genuinely annoying.
But if you’re done for good, none of this matters. Delete and move on.
The “Pause” Alternative
If you’re not 100% sure about permanent deletion, Vinted offers a pause option.
What pausing does:
- Hides your profile and listings from other users
- Stops notifications
- Keeps your account, balance, reviews, and data intact
- You can unpause anytime by logging back in
How to pause:
Same path as deletion: Profile → Settings → Account → instead of “Delete,” choose “Take a break” or “Pause Account.”
When pausing makes sense:
- You’re overwhelmed but might sell again in a few months
- You want a break from notifications but don’t want to lose your seller reputation
- You’re moving and won’t have time to ship items for a while
When pausing doesn’t make sense:
- You have privacy concerns about Vinted holding your data
- You’re done with selling clothes online permanently
- You want a clean break
Pausing is the safe choice. Deletion is the clean choice. Only you know which matters more.
Getting Your Data Before Deletion (Optional)
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to receive a copy of all data Vinted holds about you before they delete it.
How to request:
Email: dpo@vinted.com
Template:
textSubject: Data Subject Access Request - UK GDPR
Article 15
Dear Vinted Data Protection Officer,
I am making a Subject Access Request under UK GDPR
Article 15.
Please provide a complete copy of all personal data
you hold about me in a commonly used electronic
format.
Account email: [your email]
Username: [your Vinted username]
I understand you have 30 days to respond.
[Your name]
What they’ll send you:
Usually a downloadable file containing:
- Your profile information
- Message history
- Transaction records
- Search history
- Device and login data
- Any photos you uploaded
Do you need to do this?
Most people don’t bother. But if you’re curious about what Vinted collected about you, or if you want records of your sales history for personal tracking, it’s worth requesting.
You can submit both the data access request and the deletion request simultaneously. They’ll send your data first, then process the deletion.
What If Vinted Won’t Delete Your Account?
Rare, but possible in certain situations.
Why they might delay:
- Open dispute or claim on your account
- Suspected fraudulent activity being investigated
- Tax audit involving your transactions
- Pending withdrawal that hasn’t cleared
What to do:
- Ask Vinted support why deletion is being delayed
- Resolve any outstanding issues they mention
- Resubmit your deletion request
If they refuse without valid reason:
Under UK GDPR, Vinted must either:
- Process your erasure request within 30 days, OR
- Explain why they’re refusing and cite a valid legal exemption
If they ignore you or refuse without explanation:
- Follow up with a second written request
- If still no response after 30 days, file a complaint with the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) at ico.org.uk
- The ICO investigates and can force compliance
I’ve never had to go this far with Vinted. Most deletion requests are processed within a week. But knowing the ICO route exists gives you backup.
Can You Create a New Account After Deleting?
Technically yes, but with limitations.
What happens:
- You can sign up with the same email after your old account is fully deleted
- Alternatively, use a different email for a completely fresh start
- Your old reviews, ratings, and history are gone regardless
- You’re treated as a brand new user
Will Vinted recognise you?
Possibly. If you use the same device, phone number, or payment method, Vinted’s system might flag the new account as a returning user. This usually doesn’t cause problems, but you won’t get any “new user” promotions if they detect a previous account.
New account means starting over:
- Zero reviews
- No seller rating
- No verification badges
- Buyers might be cautious buying from a new seller
If building seller reputation is important to you, think carefully before deleting. Once it’s gone, there’s no recovering it.
Tax Considerations for UK Sellers
Since January 2024, HMRC requires platforms like Vinted to report seller data if you meet certain thresholds.
What this means:
If you sold more than 30 items or earned more than €2,000 (roughly £1,700) in a calendar year, Vinted has already reported your details to HMRC.
Before deleting:
- Download your transaction history (either through the data access request or by screenshotting your sales)
- Keep these records for at least 6 years
- If you need to file a tax return, your Vinted sales records are essential
Deleting doesn’t erase HMRC’s records:
Even after deleting your Vinted account, the data already shared with HMRC remains with HMRC. This is completely separate from your Vinted account.
If you’ve been selling regularly and haven’t considered the tax implications, it’s worth looking into before you delete all your records.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does Vinted take to fully delete my account?
After you confirm deletion, there’s typically a 7-day deactivation period where you could potentially reactivate. After that, deletion is permanent. Full data erasure under GDPR takes up to 30 days. Financial records may be retained for 6-7 years for tax compliance.
Will I lose my Vinted Wallet balance if I delete?
Yes. Any money in your Vinted Wallet is forfeited upon account deletion. Always withdraw your full balance to your UK bank account and confirm it’s arrived before deleting. This is the most common mistake people make.
Can I delete my account if I have items listed?
Yes. Active listings are automatically removed when your account is deleted. You don’t need to manually remove each listing first. However, if someone has already bought an item, complete the transaction before deleting.
What happens to my messages and conversations?
Your side of conversations is deleted. However, messages you sent may still appear on the other person’s account as being from a “Deleted User.” You can’t control this — it’s how the platform works.
Can someone still leave me a review after I delete?
If there’s a completed transaction where the review window hasn’t closed yet, the buyer might still be able to leave a review. But since your profile no longer exists, it effectively disappears. Don’t worry about this.
Does deleting Vinted affect my other social media accounts?
No. Even if you signed up using Facebook or Google, deleting Vinted doesn’t affect those accounts. However, the connection between your social account and Vinted should be removed. Check your Google connected apps or Facebook’s connected apps settings.
Is there a way to delete Vinted without the app?
Yes. Email dpo@vinted.com with a GDPR Article 17 erasure request. Include your account email, username, and full name. They must process it within 30 days.
Can I delete just my listings but keep my account?
Yes. You can delete individual listings without deleting your account. Go to each listing → Edit → Delete. Your account, reviews, and balance remain intact.
