Temu took the UK by storm in 2023. Incredibly cheap products, aggressive marketing, and an app that somehow ended up on everyone’s phone whether they meant to install it or not.
Now a lot of people want out.
Maybe the packages took too long. Maybe the quality wasn’t what the photos suggested. Maybe you read about their data practices and decided you’d rather not have a Chinese shopping app storing your card details, home address, and browsing habits indefinitely.
Whatever the reason, deleting your Temu account is not as straightforward as you’d hope. The delete option is buried, and Temu will try to keep you with offers before they let you go.
Here’s exactly how to remove yourself completely.
What you need:
⏱️ Time: 5-10 minutes
📱 Where: Temu app (website method is limited)
🔒 Data removal: Up to 30 days under GDPR
💳 Card details: Remove these first
📅 Updated: February 2026
Remove Your Payment Details Before Deleting
This is the first thing you should do. Before you even start the account deletion process.
Here’s why: some users report that deleting the account doesn’t always immediately remove saved payment information from Temu’s servers. Getting your card details out first is a separate, cleaner step.
In the Temu app:
Step 1: Open the Temu app.
Step 2: Tap “You” at the bottom right (your account icon).
Step 3: Tap the settings gear icon in the top right corner.
Step 4: Scroll down and tap “Payment.”
Step 5: Tap on your saved card.
Step 6: Tap “Delete” or the bin icon next to the card.
Step 7: Confirm deletion.
Do this for every saved card. If you have PayPal linked, remove that too.
No card showing?
If you always used PayPal or Apple Pay, you might not have a saved card. Still worth checking. Sometimes guest checkout cards get saved without obvious indication.
Download Your Data First (Optional But Smart)
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to a copy of all data Temu holds on you before deletion.
If you’re curious about what they actually collected (it’s usually quite a lot for shopping apps), request it first.
How to request your data:
Email: privacy@temu.com
Subject: Data Subject Access Request – UK GDPR
Email text:
textSubject: Data Subject Access Request
Dear Temu Privacy Team,
I am making a Subject Access Request under UK GDPR
Article 15.
Please provide a copy of all personal data you hold
about me.
Account email: [your email]
Full name: [your name]
I understand you have 30 days to respond.
[Your name]
They have 30 days legally to send this. You don’t have to wait for it before deleting — you can request data and delete simultaneously.
How to Delete Your Temu Account
Method 1: Delete via Temu App (Main Method)
Step 1: Open the Temu app.
Step 2: Tap “You” at the bottom right corner.
Step 3: Tap the settings gear icon in the top right.
Step 4: Scroll down to “Account Security.”
Step 5: Tap “Delete Account.”
If you can’t find “Delete Account” in Account Security, try:
- Settings → Privacy → Delete Account
- Settings → scroll to very bottom → Delete Account
Temu occasionally moves this option. If neither works, jump to Method 2.
Step 6: Temu will show you what you’re losing:
- Your order history
- Saved addresses
- Temu credits and coupons
Step 7: You’ll be asked to verify your identity. Enter your password, or they’ll send a verification code to your registered email or phone.
Step 8: Temu will likely show you a “Are you sure?” screen with a discount offer or credit. This is their last attempt to keep you. Ignore it and continue.
Step 9: Confirm deletion.
Step 10: You should see: “Your account deletion request has been submitted.”
Note: it says “request.” Temu processes deletions within 30 days. Your account goes into a deactivation state immediately (you can’t log in) but full data deletion takes up to 30 days.
Method 2: Request Deletion via Email
Use this if the app method doesn’t show a delete option, or if you’ve already uninstalled the app.

Subject: Account Deletion Request – UK GDPR
Template:
textSubject: Account Deletion Request - GDPR Article 17
Dear Temu Team,
I am requesting permanent deletion of my Temu account
and all associated personal data under UK GDPR
Article 17 (Right to Erasure).
Account details:
- Registered email: [your email]
- Full name: [your name]
- Phone number on account: [if applicable]
Please confirm:
1. When my account will be fully deleted
2. When all personal data will be erased
3. Confirmation once complete
I understand you have 30 days to action this request
under UK GDPR.
[Your name]
Why mention GDPR Article 17 specifically?
Because it triggers a legal obligation. Without the GDPR reference, some companies treat deletion requests as optional customer service. With the legal reference, they must comply within 30 days or face ICO enforcement action.
Temu knows this. They’ll process it.
After Requesting Deletion: What to Expect
Immediately:
- Can’t log into your account
- App shows “account not found” or similar
- Any Temu credits, coupons, or refunds in your account are forfeited
Within 24-48 hours:
- Confirmation email from Temu
- They’ll state your expected deletion completion date
Within 30 days:
- Full data deletion from their servers
- This includes order history, browsing data, payment info, addresses
What they might keep (legally allowed):
- Transaction records for tax/legal compliance (usually 6-7 years)
- Any information required for ongoing legal matters
This is standard across all companies — they can’t delete records of financial transactions, but everything else should go.
Uninstall the App After Requesting Deletion
Once you’ve submitted the deletion request, uninstall Temu from your device.
iPhone:
- Press and hold the Temu app icon
- Tap “Remove App”
- Tap “Delete App”
Android:
- Press and hold the Temu app icon
- Drag to “Uninstall” or tap the X
- Confirm
Also check:
- Remove Temu from any browser saved passwords
- Remove any browser notifications Temu may have enabled
- Check if you’re signed into Temu on any other devices
What About Pending Orders?
If you have orders on the way:
Wait. Don’t delete your account until your orders arrive and any return/refund windows close.
Deleting your account while orders are in transit creates complications:
- You lose access to tracking
- Refund requests become much harder
- Customer service can’t verify your identity
Finish your outstanding business with Temu first. Then delete.
What About Temu Credits and Coupons?
Gone. The moment you delete, any credits, coins, or coupons in your account disappear.
Temu doesn’t refund these. They have no cash value, so there’s no legal obligation to compensate you.
If you have a meaningful amount of credit (some people accumulate quite a bit through their referral games), spend it first. Buy something. Send it to someone. Then delete.
What If You Just Want to Stop Shopping There (Not Delete)?
Fair enough. You don’t have to delete your account to stop using Temu.
Simpler steps:
- Remove payment methods (so you can’t impulse buy)
- Turn off all notifications (Settings → Notifications → Turn off all)
- Uninstall the app
- Don’t reinstall it
Your account stays dormant. If you want to delete it later, you can. But removing the app and payment details gets you 90% of the way there without the hassle of formal deletion.
Can You Reactivate After Deleting?
During the deletion period (before 30 days are up), some users report being able to reactivate by logging in and confirming they want to cancel the deletion request.
After 30 days (once fully deleted):
- You can’t reactivate
- You’d have to create a completely new account
- Previous order history is gone
- You might be eligible for “new customer” offers again
Is Temu Safe? Should You Be Worried About Your Data?
Honest answer: there are legitimate concerns.
Temu’s parent company is PDD Holdings, a Chinese e-commerce giant. In 2023, a cybersecurity researcher found evidence of extensive data collection practices in their app going beyond what most shopping apps do.
Temu denied the most serious allegations and their app remains on both the App Store and Google Play.
What’s clear: like most free apps, Temu collects a significant amount of data. Browsing habits, device information, location data when permitted.
If that bothers you, deletion is the right call. The GDPR email method ensures they have a legal obligation to actually remove your data — not just deactivate your account.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does Temu take to delete my account?
Up to 30 days for full data deletion. Your account is deactivated immediately (you can’t log in), but the actual data removal process takes up to 30 days under their privacy policy.
Can I delete my Temu account without the app?
Yes. Email privacy@temu.com with your deletion request citing GDPR Article 17. Include your registered email and full name. They must comply within 30 days.
Will Temu delete my order history?
Yes, after the standard deletion period. However, they may retain transaction records for legal and tax compliance purposes (typically 6-7 years). This is standard practice and legally permitted.
What happens to my Temu refund if I delete my account?
If you have a pending refund, wait until it’s processed before deleting. Once your account is deleted, claiming refunds becomes significantly harder. Finish all transactions first.
Is my card actually deleted when I remove it from Temu?
Removing it from your account view should remove it from their payment system. But if you want absolute certainty, also contact your bank about getting a new card number (especially if you have any concerns about data security). Most banks do this for free now.
Can Temu refuse my deletion request?
Under UK GDPR, they cannot refuse a legitimate deletion request without a valid legal reason (like ongoing legal proceedings involving your account). If they ignore your request beyond 30 days, you can report them to the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) at ico.org.uk.
Does deleting Temu account stop their emails?
Yes, eventually. They should stop marketing emails once your account is deleted. If you continue receiving them after 30 days, report it to the ICO as a GDPR violation. That gets results quickly.
